Six Peaks Challenge
Six Peaks Challenge maps
As with the Four Peaks and
Five Peaks, the Six Peaks Challenge is yet a further
extended version of the Three Peaks Challenge, taking in the highest mountain in
each of the six areas of the British Isles. Usually completed in the order below,
these are:
Often beginning on the Isle of Man, the Six Peaks Challenge includes two sea
crossings, considerably adding to the length of the challenge itself. The Six
Peaks also includes around 50 miles of hill walking, and 1000 miles of driving.
While the National Three Peaks
becomes increasing popular year on year, the Six Peaks, as with the
Four and
Five Peaks, remains less so, given the added organisation and distance to
travel. Reaching each of the highest peaks in each island of the British Isles
does however give the Six Peaks Challenge a certain significance.
As with any challenge detailed here, the Six Peaks Challenge can be undertaken
as a self-organised challenge, or as part of a larger event. A version of the
Six Peaks is organised yearly by Wateraid, using a 72 hour timescale.
Given the distance of travel, it would be difficult to undertake the Six Peaks
in less than 72 hours.
